PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

As President of Anavex Life Sciences Corp. (OTCBB: AVXL), I am pleased that you are taking the time to learn more about our company, its rich drug development program and its proprietary drug discovery platform.

ANAVEX has a robust pipeline of drugs in development targeting diseases of the central nervous system, such as Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy and depression, as well as numerous cancers, including those of the colon, breast, prostate and melanoma.  The ANAVEX drug candidates are unique in that they offer disease-modifying potential, while many drugs currently available only treat surface symptoms, not the underlying disease itself.

Our SIGMACEPTOR™ drug discovery platform is critical to our success.  It continues to generate new drug candidates with unique modes of action.  These drug candidates are known as sigma ligands, which impact the origin and/or development of a disease.  This novel approach offers significant promise for the treatment of a number of devastating medical conditions and underscores the considerable growth potential for ANAVEX. 

We have successfully completed preclinical studies on ANAVEX 2-73, our lead candidate to treat Alzheimer’s disease.  As a result of our proprietary platform, two additional drug candidates are currently in the late pre-clinical stage: ANAVEX 1-41 (Alzheimer’s disease and depression), and ANAVEX 7-1037 (Cancer).  Results from these pre-clinical tests have been positive and we expect to file Investigational New Drug (IND) (or IMPD) applications with regulatory authorities for these lead candidates in 2009.  We believe that ANAVEX 2-73 will be the first to reach Phase 1 clinical trials and expect to commence human testing in the first half of 2009.

Collaborations are also extremely important to ANAVEX.  We are proud to have strong partnerships with renowned European research and academic institutions such as Montpellier University, Louis Pasteur University and the Academy of Athens’ Institute of Biomedical Research.  These partnerships make it possible for ANAVEX to limit its R&D costs while maintaining firm control of its research efforts and intellectual property.  This year we also plan to expand our collaborations beyond Europe to include major American research and academic institutions.

ANAVEX is led by a superb management team and Board of Directors with extensive experience in the pharmaceutical sector, the securities industry, business modeling and analysis, and public company administration.  We are confident that our team will build on the momentum it has created and continue to grow and develop the company as we work to combat the world’s most devastating diseases.
